Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC)’s Tourism Team enjoyed a week learning from established, Kimberley tour operators.

Tour Guides, Esekia Bradshaw, Dylan Sesar and Chelsea Osborne took part in 5 different and inspiring Kimberley tours from Broome to Oolin, Sunday Island:

  • Bart Pigram’s Narlijia Mangrove Tour, Broome where we learnt how to confidently talk about country. https://www.toursbroome.com.au/our-tours/mangrove-tour
  • Robert Dann’s Kimberley Cultural Adventures at Beagle Bay, where we learnt how to present information about the Mission days, keeping it interesting and informative. https://www.kimberleyculturaladventures.com.au/
  • Terry Hunter’s Borrgoron Cygnet Bay Tour. We learnt how to conduct a short walking tour and got tips on how to keep the customer engaged.  https://coasttocreektours.com.au/
  • Rosanna Angus’ Oolin, Sunday Island Cultural Tours. We were inspired by Rosanna, an award-winning tour guide and female role model for our emerging female guides, who used different props and photos to engage guests and share stories of the old days on Sunday Island. https://sundayislandtours.com.au/
  • Bolo Angus’ tour – Lullumb Tours, ‘which is just like a day in the life of a Bardi Jawi person’. We went mud crabbing, found fresh water, sang traditional songs, sourced bush medicine and had a feast of mud crabs and damper to finish off. https://www.lullumbtours.com.au/tours-lullumb

Some feedback on the experience from our guides, Esekia Bradshaw, Dylan Sesar and Chelsea Osborne:

“It was very educational and we were able to learn a lot of new skills and participate in a lot of activities which made it very engaging.”

“We were inspired by their use of cultural props such as tools and artifacts and also taking pride when speaking on and about country.”

“We had a great time with different local tours and have been inspired to include some of our learnings in our Dambimangari tour program.”

Thank you to all involved and Tourism WA for funding this great learning adventure.
